Jaideep Srivastava

I lead a research laboratory which conducts research in the information and knowledge aspects of computing. During this course I have supervised 46 Ph.D. dissertations, 70 M.S. theses, and a number of post-doctoral researchers. In the process, I have authored or co-authored over 490 papers in refereed journals, conferences, and invited book chapters. I have been a co-inventor on over ten patents. A series of prototype software systems have built in my laboratory to evaluate and validate our research results; and have acted as vehicles of technology transfer. Most recently I spent three years at Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), a flagship institute of Qatar Foundation (https://www.qf.org.qa/), as Research Director and Chief Scientist. This is an institute with around 140 people from over 30 countries worldwide, providing a highly multicultural and multi-ethnic environment. My roles involved guiding the scientific process, instituting formal review processes for personnel evaluation/promotion/hiring as well as project evaluation, and representing the institute from a scientific perspective; in addition to conducting my own research. In addition, I was the strategic interface with the people involved in technology commercialization. I have spent significant time in the industry. Specifically, during 1999-2001 I was the Data Mining Architect for Amazon.com and built a data analytics department at Yodlee. During 2004-2006 I was the Chief Technology Officer for Persistent Systems where I led the creation of an R&D division. In 2010 I Co-Founded Ninja Metrics to commercialize my research in game analytics, and served as its Chief Technology Officer. I’ve served as Senior Technology Advisor to the State of Minnesota, helping better tax collection through AI. I have provided technology advice to the Government of India for the Unique ID project, the world’s largest project to issue ID’s to over 1.4 billion citizens of India. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), have been a Distinguished Fellow of Allina’s Center for Healthcare Innovation, and an IEEE Distinguished Visitor. I have been awarded the Distinguished Contributions Award by the PAKDD Society for my lifetime contributions to the field of data mining.
